Sober Coaching: Helping Someone Stay Sober

What Does Sober Mean In Today’s Society?

Sober means in today’s society the same thing it has always meant. That in order to be sober you cannot drink or do drugs, plain and simple. That’s what sober means. It doesn’t mean you can drink a little or you can drink on Sundays. It’s not like that. In order to truly say you are sober you have to stay away from alcohol and drugs completely. That doesn’t mean you can’t take aspirin for a headache but you cannot drink or do drugs.

Sober Coaching Can Really Help A Recovering Addict Remain Sober

If you’re married and your husband had a drinking problem and has since gone through recovery that doesn’t mean life at home has gotten that much easier. He’s not longer drinking or doing drugs but you don’t necessarily recognize the person he is. The reason may be that in college he drank a lot but you never noticed. He was the fun guy. Then out of college he drank a lot but it was manageable. Up until the point where it stopped being manageable he was the funny, drunk guy. Now he’s more solemn, and constantly needing sober coaching from his sponsor. Give it time, it will get better.

Sober Living Environments Create Positive Thinking Environments

Sober living environments don’t just work on the no alcohol, no drug part of being rehabilitated. They also work on the mind, body and spirit of the recover addict. These environments understand that it’s important that the addict feels good about themselves mentally and emotionally otherwise they will return to drinking and doing drugs because it altered their state of mind so they didn’t have to think about how bad they felt about themselves and their lives.
